After first attending the Local Authors Expo in 2023, Author & Journalist Vallean Jackson returned to this year’s event at the Birmingham Public Library in Downtown Birmingham on Nov. 1— and the experience proved to be even more rewarding the second time around.
For Jackson, the event wasn’t just about showcasing her books, but also about sharing her journey as a writer. Having the opportunity to speak about what inspired her to begin writing and to discuss the messages behind her stories made the experience deeply enriching.
“This year felt different in the best way,” Jackson shared. “Getting to talk about my ‘why’ and connect with others who truly appreciate storytelling reminded me how much I love what I do.”
Throughout the day, she enjoyed meeting fellow authors, discovering new stories, and connecting with readers who continue to support local talent. The atmosphere was filled with creativity, community, and shared passion — something Jackson says makes the Local Authors Expo such a meaningful event for Birmingham’s literary scene.
As she reflected on the experience, Jackson expressed gratitude for both the opportunity and the growth that has come since her first appearance. The event served as a reminder of how far she’s come — and a motivation to continue sharing her voice and vision through writing.
